Who the Offshore Oil and Gas Award covers

The Offshore Oil and Gas Award covers employers operating, using, controlling, maintaining, repairing, and servicing vessels in, or connected to, offshore oil and gas operations. Their employees are covered if the award has a classification for the work they do.

Vessel means a propelled or non-propelled vessel that may be used in navigation, construction or drilling, but is not limited to these tasks. It includes:

  • ships
  • barges
  • drilling vessels or rigs
  • crane vessels
  • floating production facilities
  • tug boats
  • support vessels
  • supply vessels
  • stand-by/emergency vessels
  • pipe laying vessels
  • diving support vessels
  • lighter or like vessels, or
  • any other vessel used in offshore and gas operations.

Examples of employees covered by the Offshore Oil and Gas Award includes:

  • masters
  • mates
  • engineers
  • officers
  • communications
  • caterers
  • rating workers.

The Offshore Oil and Gas Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the maritime offshore oil and gas industry.

Who the Offshore Oil and Gas Award doesn't cover

The following employees are not covered by the Offshore Oil and Gas Award:

  • clerical and administrative employees.

The Offshore Oil and Gas Award doesn't cover employers and employees when they are covered by one of the following awards:

  • Coal Export Terminals Award
  • Marine Towage Award
  • Dredging Award
  • Ports, Harbours and Enclosed Water Vessels Award
  • Port Authorities Award
  • Seagoing Award
  • Stevedoring Award
  • Manufacturing Award.
