Who the Seafood Award covers
The Seafood Award covers employers and their employees in the seafood processing industry. Employees are covered if the award has a classification for the work they do.
The seafood processing industry includes the following activities when they take place on land after harvesting. It means:
- receipt, sorting and handling of:
- fish
- seafood
- marine products
whether they are wild, farmed, freshwater or saltwater. It includes scaled fish, crustaceans, molluscs, and other marine species.
The seafood processing industry also means:
- preparing, cooking, preserving, filleting, gutting, shucking, drying, smoking, freezing, refrigerating, washing, grading, processing and/or canning of fish, seafood and marine products
- packaging, labelling, palletising, cold storage, chilling and/or freezing, preparing for sale, packing and dispatching of fish, seafood and marine products
- marketing in fish markets and wholesaling fish, seafood and marine products.
The following are examples of employees covered by the Seafood Award:
- process attendants
- quality assurance officers
- employees who fillet, weigh, clean, grade, drain, tail, pickle, crumb or cook seafood
- packaging employees
- forklift or refrigeration equipment operators
- specialist filleting employees
- specialist shucking employees.
The Seafood Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the seafood processing industry.

Who the Seafood Award doesn’t cover
The following employees are not covered by the Seafood Award:
- employees working on oyster farms.
The Seafood Award doesn’t cover employers and employees when they are covered by one of the following awards:
- Fast Food Award
- Food and Beverage Manufacturing Award
- Retail Award
- Hospitality Award
- Meat Award
- Poultry Award.
