Who the Water Award covers
The Water Award covers employers in the water industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.
The water industry means:
- harvesting (including desalination)
- transporting
- storing
- treating
- supplying
water to commercial, residential and other consumers.
It also includes the harvesting, transporting, storing, treating and recycling of waste water, stormwater and sewerage.
Examples of employees covered by the Water Award includes:
- clerical and administrative workers
- senior managers (who report to senior executives)
- technical employees
- trades employees
- graduate professional employees
- operational employees.
The Water Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the water industry.

Who the Water Award doesn't cover
The following employers and employees are not covered by the Water Award:
- Chief executive officers (CEO)
- employers and employees who are not in the water industry who:
- construct facilities or infrastructure used by the water industry
- construct, manufacture, sell, install or repair water tanks
- employees who install, maintain and repair:
- water, sewerage or drainage services within buildings, structures or facilities that are not part of the water industry
- mains, drains and lines immediately connected to those buildings
- employers who process or supply bottled water
- contractors who own or operate water industry facilities or infrastructure, and their employees who do work covered by the following award:
- Building and Construction Award
- Electrical Award
- Joinery Award
- Manufacturing Award
- Mobile Crane Hiring Award
- Plumbing Award
- Professional Award.
The Water Award doesn't cover employers and employees when they are covered by the Local Government Award.
