Who the Cement, Lime and Quarrying Award covers
The Cement, Lime and Quarrying Award covers employers in the cement and lime industry and/or the quarrying industry. Employees are covered if the award has a classification for the work they do.
The cement and lime industry means work with or related to receiving, manufacturing, handling or distributing of:
- cement
- clinker
- flyash
- lime and/or
- hydrated lime
in or out of production establishments or bulk silos.
The quarrying industry means:
- operations in:
- lime and / or stone quarries
- sand pits
- gravel pits
- operations (other than in a quarry) where the plant and equipment is mainly used to crush, screen and / or blend materials such as stone, brick, concrete, masonry, asphalt etc. to produce recycled material including aggregates, road bases, gravels, fine and coarse sands, or a blend of these.
Examples of employers and employees covered by the Cement, Lime and Quarrying Award include:
- cement mixers
- lime mixers
- despatchers
- quality control testers
- crushing plant operators
- front end loader operators
- excavator operators
- haul truck operators
- weighbridge operators
- laboratory operators
- wash plant operators
- drillers
- shotfirers
- those involved in quarry development
- those involved in support equipment
- dredge operators.
The Cement, Lime and Quarrying Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the cement and lime industry or the quarrying industry.

Who the Cement, Lime and Quarrying Award doesn't cover
The following employers and employees in the cement and lime industry are not covered by the Cement, Lime and Quarrying Award:
- manufacturers of concrete products
- manufacturers of cement products.
The following employers and employees in the quarrying industry are not covered by this award:
- those who operate in dimension stone, brick, shale or slate quarries
- clerical and administrative employees.
The Cement, Lime and Quarrying Award also doesn’t apply to employers and employees in the on-site building, engineering and civil construction industry who are covered by the Building and Construction Award.
