About our information

Each state and territory sets its own public holidays.

Some states and territories add or substitute public holidays when one falls on a weekend, while others don’t. Some states and territories have regional public holidays or public holidays that are only for a capital city.

Our information is based on the public holiday lists that each state and territory make publicly available. We include state- or territory-wide holidays, capital city holidays and some regional holidays.

For a full list of the public holidays in a state or territory, check the website listed below each state or territory. If you have questions, contact the state or territory authority.
