Who the Supported Employment Services Award covers

The Supported Employment Services Award covers employers who operate supported employment services and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.

Supported employment services means services to support the paid employment of people with disabilities. They support people:

  • for whom competitive employment (at or above the relevant award wage) is unlikely; and
  • who, because of their disabilities, need substantial ongoing support to obtain or keep paid employment.

Examples of employees covered by the Supported Employment Services Award include:

  • catering workers
  • engineering workers
  • clerical/administrative workers
  • timber workers
  • gardening workers
  • laundry workers
  • printing/ bookbinding workers
  • leather and canvas goods and sewing workers
  • microfilm workers
  • foam and plastic workers
  • cleaning workers
  • recycling workers
  • training/instructors
  • purchasing officers
  • developing officers
  • marketing officers
  • supervisor/welfare support staff
  • senior supervisors
  • welfare officers.

The Supported Employment Services Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation that operates a supported employment service.

Who the Supported Employment Services Award doesn't cover

The following employees are not covered by the Supported Employment Services Award:

  • supported wage employees working in open employment in the general workforce
  • executive and management employees.

The Supported Employment Services Award doesn’t cover employers and their employees in relation to activities that are covered by:

  • Aged Care Award
  • Health Services Award
  • Social and Community Services Award.
