Who the Animal and Veterinary Services Award covers
The Animal and Veterinary Services Award covers employers in the veterinary surgery and the animal care industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.
The veterinary surgery industry means private veterinary surgery practices.
The animal care industry means community-based charity organisations working to stop cruelty against animals (for example, RSPCA).
Examples of employees covered by the Animal and Veterinary Services Award include:
- veterinary surgeons
- veterinary nurses
- animal attendants and assistants
- receptionists
- practice managers
- animal care industry inspectors.
The Animal and Veterinary Services Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the veterinary surgery and the animal care industry.

Who the Animal and Veterinary Services Award doesn't cover
The following employers and employees are not covered by the Animal and Veterinary Services Award:
- private boarding kennels
- dog grooming businesses
- dog walkers
- wildlife educator
- animal transport
- animal technician
- research veterinary technician.
The Animal and Veterinary Services Award doesn't cover employers and employees when they are covered by one of the following awards:
- Amusement Award
- Food and Beverage Manufacturing Award
- Horse and Greyhound Award
- Pastoral Award.
