Who the Dry Cleaning and Laundry Award covers

The Dry Cleaning and Laundry Award covers employers in the dry cleaning and laundry industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.

The dry cleaning and laundry industry means:

  • dry cleaning, dyeing and/or repairing and/or invisible mending of garments or articles in a dry cleaning business or their connected receiving depots
  • washing, sorting and/or packing of laundry in laundries and laundrettes including repairing items and preparing garments for rental
  • performing of any activities as part of the businesses above.

Examples of employees covered by the dry cleaning and laundry industry are:

  • trade qualified dry cleaners
  • tailors
  • pressers
  • repairers
  • invisible menders
  • ironers using manual or automatic machines at either dry cleaning or laundry businesses
  • operators of washing, drying and extracting equipment or textile pressing machines.

The Dry Cleaning and Laundry Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the dry cleaning and laundry industry.

Who the Dry Cleaning and Laundry Award doesn't cover

The following employees are not covered by the Dry Cleaning and Laundry Award:

  • ironing work in a workshop environment.

The Dry Cleaning and Laundry Award doesn’t cover employers and employees when they are covered by one of the following awards:

  • Cleaning Award
  • Clerks Award
  • Retail Award
  • Health Services Award
  • Hospitality Award
  • Local Government Award.
