A rostered day off (RDO) is a day in a roster period that an employee doesn't have to work.

Paid and unpaid RDOs

An employee's day off can be paid or unpaid, depending on how RDOs are set out in an awardAn award is a legal document that outlines the wages and conditions of employment for employees that are covered by it within a particular industry or occupation. Other known term: modern award. or registered agreementA document between an employer and their employees covering employment conditions. A registered agreement must be approved by and registered with the Fair Work Commission. Examples of registered agreements include enterprise agreements (including single and multi-enterprise) and greenfields agreements. .

When RDOs are paid, it is because an employee has worked extra hours that add up over a set period of time and this is taken as an RDO.
