Who the Corrections and Detention Award covers
The Corrections and Detention Award covers employers in the corrections and detention industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.
The corrections and detention industry means the private operation of:
- correctional facilities
- custody centres
- court custody services
- detention facilities
- prisoner or detainee facilities or services (including security escort services to and from correctional facilities, courts and/or hospitals).
Examples of employees covered by the Corrections and Detention Award includes:
- correctional employees including:
- correctional officers
- perimeter/security officers
- supervisors of correctional and court security officers
- court security officers
- custody officers
- trainees
- detention services employees including:
- detention services officers
- accredited detention services officers
- operations co-ordinators
- trainees
- catering employees including:
- food and beverage attendants
- food and beverage supervisors
- kitchen attendants
- chefs
- storepersons.
The Corrections and Detention Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the corrections and detention industry.

Who the Corrections and Detention Award doesn't cover
The following employers and employees are not covered by the Corrections and Detention Award:
- employers and their employees who work in the correction and detention industry in the public sector (for example owned by a government body)
- employees who mainly do clerical or administrative work.
The Corrections and Detention Award doesn't cover contractors to employers in the corrections and detention industry and their employees, when they are covered by one of the following awards:
- Building and Construction Award
- Clerks Award
- Electrical Award
- Joinery Award
- Manufacturing Award
- Mobile Crane Hiring Award
- Plumbing Award
- Security Award.
