Pharmaceutical Industry Award [MA000069]
Who the Pharmaceutical Award covers
The Pharmaceutical Award covers employers in the pharmaceutical industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.
The pharmaceutical industry means:
- the manufacturing and production of prescription pharmaceuticals
- the wholesale of prescription pharmaceuticals
- any processes and activities that are incidental to the above.
It also includes manufacturing and wholesaling of non-prescription pharmaceuticals but only when it is in conjunction with the manufacture and wholesale of prescription pharmaceuticals.
Examples of employees covered by the Pharmaceutical Award includes:
- manufacturing/production workers
- warehouse/distribution workers.
The Pharmaceutical Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the pharmaceutical industry.

Who the Pharmaceutical Award doesn’t cover
The following employers and employees are not covered by the Pharmaceutical Award:
- employees who work in a pharmacy
- employees who do mainly clerical or administrative work
- employees who manufacture or wholesale products that aren’t prescription pharmaceuticals.
The Pharmaceutical Award doesn’t cover employers and employees when they are covered by one of the following awards:
- Food and Beverage Manufacturing Award
- Manufacturing Award.
