Who the Wool Award covers
The Wool Award covers employers in the raw wool testing, skin, hide and wool storage services industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.
The raw wool testing, skin, hide and wool storage services industry means:
- receiving
- handling
- processing (including sampling, testing, blending or dumping)
- storing
- shipping or
- transporting
skins, hides and wool.
Examples of employees covered by the Wool Award include:
- wool storage workers whose duties include:
- core sampling
- lobbing
- opening and closing bales
- sewing
- hand trucking
- operate wool bending machines
- head marking or branding of head bale at receiver or weighing
- sheetmen or fossickers
- wool pressing
- operating materials handling equipment
- packing containers with dumped bales
- sworn weigher
- operators in charge of fully automated core link operations and dump presses
- wool sampling and testing officers whose duties include:
- laserscan testing
- mechanical tuft sampling
- atlas testing
- burrs
- fleece measurement testing
- stock control, ordering and purchasing work connected with testing and sampling work
- skin and hide store workers whose duties include:
- wool pressing
- operating a wool blending machine
- curing skins and/or hides
- operate skin, hide or wool press feeders
- operate material handling equipment
- bale clerks
- trainee wool classing
- skin and hide classing.
The Wool Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the raw wool testing, skin, hide and wool storage services industry.

Who the Wool Award doesn't cover
The following employers and employees are not covered by the Wool Award:
- employees who are engaged exclusively to perform clerical and administrative work
- shearers
- employers who breed sheep and livestock.
