Who the Electrical Power Award covers
The Electrical Power Award covers employers in the electrical power industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.
The electrical power industry means:
- generating (in any way), transmitting, distributing and retail supply of electrical power, and
- mining, processing and treating brown coal (in any way) for generating electrical power.
It also includes:
- businesses that supply gas and other utility services by retail, if those businesses mainly generate, transmit, distribute or retail electrical power,
- businesses that provide temporary labourers whose work is linked to the electrical power industry and who work at a location where electrical power work is performed.
Examples of employees covered by the Electrical Power Award:
- plant operators
- trades assistants and labourers
- storepersons
- qualified lines/cable persons
- engineering officers
- technical officers
- clerical and administrative workers including HR and payroll officers
- meter readers
- customer service officers
- mine operators
- dredge drivers
- fault analysis officers
- plant controllers and control room operators
- system operators
- mine shift managers and power station shift managers.

Who the Electrical Power Award doesn't cover
The following employers and employees are not covered by the Electrical Power Award:
- employers who work in another industry, and generates and/or transmits power and/or steam as a result of the work they do outside the electrical power industry
- electrical contractors who provide electrical services
- employers in the black coal mining industry.
The Electrical Power Award doesn’t cover contractors and their employees when they are covered by one of the following awards:
- Building and Construction Award
- Electrical Award
- Mobile Crane Hiring Award.
