Free seminar to assist Kalgoorlie employers
28 October 2011
The Fair Work Ombudsman will conduct a free seminar for employers at Kalgoorlie, in regional Western Australia, to assist them understand key features of workplace laws.
The seminar will focus on Modern Awards and Individual Flexibility Arrangements (IFAs).
Fair Work Ombudsman Kalgoorlie team leader Stephanie Fletcher says the aim of the session is to provide local employers with information on identifying which Modern Award applies to their business and the correct classifications applicable to their staff.
“It is important employers understand some of the basics relating to Modern Awards to ensure they are paying staff their full entitlements, including the correct minimum hourly rate and penalty rates,” Ms Fletcher said.
Employers will also be able to seek information on the correct use of IFAs in their workplace.
IFAs allow for certain terms of Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements to be varied to meet the needs of employers and individual employees, while ensuring the employee is better-off-overall.
“IFAs allow employers and employees to shape Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements to the circumstances in their workplace,” Ms Fletcher said.
“Flexible work practices can deliver benefits to both employers and employees.”
The one-hour seminar is being held at 10.30am on Thursday November 10, at the Fair Work Ombudsman’s office at 349 Hannan Street.
The seminar is free to all employers. Those wishing to attend are asked to register in advance by calling (08) 9080 9520.
