Information for workers

Everybody is entitled to minimum wages and entitlements during a work trial.

An employer can invite a potential employee to look around the workplace, observe the work, demonstrate basic skills and meet other staff. This doesn’t amount to a work trial and therefore the payment of minimum wages and other entitlements isn’t required. If someone is required to perform productive work or to work an entire shift, they are entitled to receive the minimum wages and conditions provided in the National Employment Standards and any applicable modern award or agreement.

If you are unsure whether you are engaged in an unpaid work trial as a potential employee, or you have questions about your situation, please Contact us for assistance.

The Fair Work Ombudsman has a range of tools and information available to help you find your minimum wages and conditions of employment .
