633,000 downloads - that’s a fact!
Free fact sheets covering topics from minimum wages to unlawful workplace discrimination were downloaded 633,000 times from the Fair Work Ombudsman website last financial year.
Fair Work Ombudsman Nicholas Wilson says the suite of self-service Online tools at www.fairwork.gov.au generated an average 16,000 visits a week throughout 2010-11.
Mr Wilson says the most popular fact sheet - on employer records and pay slips - was downloaded more than 72,000 times.
He says a new fact sheet has recently been added, taking the total number to 36, addressing the issue of internships, vocational placements and unpaid work.
The new addition aims to assist employers to understand their obligations and assist businesses to establish whether or not they are creating an employment relationship.
The Fair Work Ombudsman’s free templates - 44 in total and including some specifically developed for industries such as hospitality, security, retail and hair and beauty - were downloaded 448,000 times last year.
Mr Wilson says the most popular was the pay slip template, which was downloaded more than 64,000 times.
A range of Best Practice Guides to assist small business to implement best practice initiatives in areas such as pay equity, balancing work and family commitments and employing young workers were also strongly sought after, with more than 65,000 downloads.
The guides highlight key aspects of the federal workplace relations system, information on best practice concepts, strategies on how these can be implemented and the benefits for businesses in doing so.
Mr Wilson says the Fair Work Ombudsman’s industry-specific pages generated more than 159,000 page views, with the retail industry page accounting for 35 per cent of the total.
As well as for retail, there are pages specifically tailored for the cleaning, clerical, hair and beauty, security, hospitality and fast food industries.
The Fair Work Ombudsman website delivers a range of valuable Online self-service tools that provide access to advice and information 24 hours a day.
