Melton worker back-paid $18,000
An operations manager at Melton in country Victoria has been back-paid a total of $18,000 following intervention by the Fair Work Ombudsman.
The 62-year-old male employee was not paid annual leave and long service leave entitlements when his job was terminated.
After lodging a complaint with the Fair Work Ombudsman, the employee was promptly reimbursed all outstanding entitlements without the need for further action.
“It’s a fact that some businesses inadvertently breach workplace laws. When we find mistakes, we’re here to assist and give practical advice to employers on how to voluntarily fix them,” says Fair Work Ombudsman Nicholas Wilson.
“This business has now corrected the errors that led to the underpayments and put processes in place to ensure they will not happen again.”
The Fair Work Ombudsman recovered a total of $7.5 million back-pay for 3556 workers in Victoria last financial year.
