Fair Work Ombudsman recoups $44,000 for Albury-Wodonga workers
A number of workers in Albury-Wodonga have been back-paid $44,000 after recent investigations by the Fair Work Ombudsman found they were underpaid.
The largest recovery was $17,900 for a transport worker in Wodonga.
The worker was underpaid shift, weekend, overtime and public holiday penalty rates and meal allowances.
After Fair Work inspectors visited the employer and explained its obligations, the worker was reimbursed all money owed.
Other recent recoveries include:
- $11,700 for two Albury administrative workers underpaid redundancy entitlements,
- $8900 for a Wodonga health and fitness employee not paid for all hours worked, and
- $5500 for Mt Beauty retail worker not paid in lieu of notice or accrued annual leave entitlements.
Fair Work Ombudsman Executive Director Michael Campbell says that given the employers all co-operated and back-paid the workers voluntarily, there will be no further action against the companies.
“Our first preference is always to assist employers to voluntarily rectify any non-compliance issues identified,” he said.
Since 2006, the Fair Work Ombudsman has recovered more than $111 million for 88,000 Australian workers who were underpaid - 98 per cent of it without the need for litigation.
