Ballarat employers focus of new campaign
Fair Work inspectors will audit up to a 100 Ballarat employers this month and deliver a seminar on workplace laws for small business as part of an education and compliance campaign.
The Fair Work Ombudsman has written to 40 Ballarat employers to provide them with educational information about workplace laws and to ask them to provide time-and-wages records for audit.
On November 23 and 24, inspectors will doorknock another 60 businesses to scrutinise their books and provide employers with tips about how to ensure they are compliant.
Fair Work Ombudsman Executive Director Michael Campbell says inspectors will check employers are paying staff their full entitlements and are complying with record-keeping and payslip obligations.
Mr Campbell says prior to the visits, a senior Fair Work inspector will be one of the presenters at a seminar for small business operators.
“The presentation will focus on workplace laws and how the Fair Work Ombudsman can assist employers to understand and comply with laws,” he said.
The seminar will be held at 7pm on November 16 at Pipers by the Lake, 403 Wendouree Parade, Ballarat. Bookings are available by calling Commerce Ballarat on 5333 3233. The cost is $15.
Mr Campbell says the Fair Work Ombudsman has a range of user-friendly resources on its website to assist employers to comply with workplace laws and operate their workplace at best practice.
Resources for small business on www.fairwork.gov.au include industry specific web pages, payslip and record-keeping templates, a self-audit checklist, template letters and fact sheets on dozens of topics including leave, industrial action, public holidays, enterprise bargaining, gender pay equality and family-friendly workplaces.
The ‘Industries’ section on the Fair Work Ombudsman’s website provides information specifically tailored for employers and workers in the retail, cleaning, clerical, hair and beauty, security and horticulture industries.
As well as Online resources, the Fair Work Ombudsman has more than 200 highly-skilled advisers available to speak with employers and workers with questions on its Fair Work Infoline on 13 13 94 from 8am-6pm weekdays.
