Regulator recoups almost $20,000 for two Rockhampton workers
Two workers at Rockhampton in Queensland have been reimbursed $19,700 after recent investigations by the Fair Work Ombudsman.
The largest underpayment was $12,300 for a customer service officer who was underpaid her long service leave entitlements.
The worker lodged a complaint with the Fair Work Ombudsman after her employment was terminated and she did not receive her correct entitlements.
After Fair Work inspectors contacted the company and explained its obligations the employer immediately back-paid the worker.
In another recent case, a casual Rockhampton cleaner has been back-paid $7400.
The worker lodged a complaint with the Fair Work Ombudsman after he was underpaid his casual hourly and overtime rates of pay.
Similarly, after inspectors contacted the business and explained its obligations, the worker was back paid in full.
Fair Work Ombudsman Executive Director Michael Campbell says that given the employers co-operated and voluntarily rectified the underpayments, there will be no further action against the companies.
“Our preference is always to work with employers to educate them and help them voluntarily rectify any non-compliance issues,” he said.
The Fair Work Ombudsman has a number of tools on its website - www.fairwork.gov.au - to assist employees and employers to check minimum rates of pay.
