Workers should query unexplained changes in take-home pay
Any worker who has noticed an unexplained change in their take-home pay since 1 January should find out why.
The Fair Work Ombudsman says it can examine an individual employee’s circumstances.
Alternatively, employees or their union can apply to Fair Work Australia to make a “take-home pay order”.
The Fair Work Ombudsman says the introduction of Modern Awards and National Employment Standards on 1 January are not intended to result in workers receiving a pay cut.
Most new pay rates under award modernisation do not come into effect until 1 July.
Workers who have had an inexplicable reduction in their take-home pay can contact 13 13 94 for advice.
For more information about take-home pay orders, employees or their representatives should contact 1300 799 675 or www.fwa.gov.au
