When are employees entitled to parental leave?

Full-time and part-time employees can take 12 months of unpaid parental leave if a parent has a responsibility to care for a newborn or adopted child, if they have worked for you continuously for 12 months.

Casual employees are also entitled to take 12 months parental leave if they have been employed with an employer on a regular and systematic basis for at least 12 months.

Employers that have an employee that intends to take a period of parental leave, can provide them with the following checklist and forms to ensure they understand what they need to do and what their entitlements are.
