Notice and evidence

For community service leave, employees must give their employer:

  • notice of the leave as soon as practicable (which may be a time after the absence has started), including the period or expected period of leave
  • if requested, reasonable evidence that the employee is entitled to the leave.

An employee’s absence is not covered under the NES unless the employee complies with the notice and evidence requirements of the NES.
