Under the Security Award, you must provide your full-time, part-time and casual security employees with a minimum number of hours of work (in a row) on any day that they work. This means that even if you do not require your employees to work for a continuous period, they still have to be paid for the minimum hours set by the Security Award.

You can change the maximum ordinary hours per day from 10 hours up to no more than 12 hours per shift, as long as:
- the majority of your affected security employees (who can choose to be represented) agree, and the agreement is made in writing and kept as a time and wages record
- employees are provided with adequate breaks
- you introduce health monitoring procedures and suitable roster arrangements
- you introduce a trial or review process.
If your employees work more than the maximum ordinary hours per day, then they are entitled to be paid the overtime rate of these hours up to a maximum of 14 hours per day. Visit the Overtime page for more information.
