Rosters

Rosters provide a schedule of your employees’ working hours - generally covering a week or fortnight, and no more than four weeks. When you are preparing rosters for your employees, remember to keep in mind your hours of work and breaks obligations under the Hair and Beauty Award. There is a template roster you may wish to use which is available below.

What does a roster need to include and where do you need to display it?

For each employee, the roster has to show:

  • The number of ordinary hours to be worked each week
  • The days of the week on which work is to be performed
  • The starting and finishing times of work for each day of the week.

Permanent employees (those who are full-time and part-time) need to be advised of their roster at least 14 days in advance.

Note: A noticeboard is an effective way to communicate with your staff. You may post weekly rosters on noticeboards which are easily accessible to all employees. They can also be used to tell your staff about workplace rules and procedures, post contact information or any other appropriate material
