Additional leave for shift workers

Shiftworkers are entitled to 5 weeks of annual leave instead of 4 weeks, for every year of service. Visit our shiftwork section for more information about shiftworkers.

Shiftworkers are entitled to an additional half a day of annual leave for every month that they work as a shiftworker. This can continue up to a total of 10 months in a year.

Example

Josephine is a full-time cleaner for Bob’s Building Services. She works permanent night shift for 6 months of the year and regular day shift for the other 6 months. Every year, Josephine is entitled to 4 weeks of annual leave which accumulates progressively. In addition, for each of the months that she works permanent night shift, she accumulates half a day of annual leave - so over 6 months she is entitled to an extra 3 days of annual leave.
