Key questions to know before calling

To help us give you the right answer to your question, we will usually need to know:

1. What is the:

  • business name?
  • business address?
  • industry the business operates in?
  • duties of the job?

This information is important as it will help us determine where your pay and conditions come from.

2. Is the business a Pty Ltd or Ltd company?

This helps us find out if the business is covered by the national workplace relations system. It also helps us to determine what type of award or agreement applies.

If you are unsure, you can usually find this information by searching for the business name at Australian Business Register External link icon, or by looking on your payslip.

3. Did the business employ people before or after 26 March 2006?

Businesses that employed people before or after this date usually have different rules, pay and conditions that apply to them. This date is when most employers moved from the state workplace system to the national workplace system.

4. Does the business or employee have a registered agreement? (such as a collective agreement , AWA or ITEA)?

If you have an agreement that covers you, this will contain your pay and conditions. You can usually find out if an agreement covers you by asking your employer, union or employer organisation.
