Instructions for using the worksheet

Open the worksheet, and follow the steps below to calculate your wage rates. Once you have completed this process for each of the different classifications that you employ, checking your rate of pay in future is simple.

Rates of pay may increase on 1 July each year. It is important that you check your rates of pay regularly.

Step 1: Find your Division 2B state award

Your Division 2B state award will have the same title as the state award you were previously covered by.

  • Use Award Finder to search for your Division 2B award by title
  • Under optional select RA - Div2B Award
  • Add the award title and code in section A of your worksheet.

If you don’t know the title of your Division 2B state award you can use Award Finder to search for it or contact us for assistance.

Step 2: Find the Division 2B wage rates

  • View the Division 2B award by clicking on view
  • Search through the award to find the wage rates
  • Add the classification name and pay rate in section B of your worksheet.

Note: If the award provides the pay rate as a weekly rate, convert it to an hourly rate by dividing by the ordinary hours in your award (e.g. Weekly rate ÷ 38 = hourly rate).

Step 3: Find your NAPSA

  • Use Award Finder to search for your NAPSA by title. Your NAPSA will most likely have the same name as your Division 2B award
  • Under optional, select AN - NAPSA
  • Add the award title and code in section C of your worksheet.

Step 4: Find your modern award

  • After you have found your NAPSA in Award Finder, click on the plus to see a list of related modern awards
  • Read clause 4 ‘Coverage’ in each modern award to select the award that best matches your business
  • Add the award title and code in section E of your worksheet
  • Keep the modern award open as you will need it for the following steps.

Step 5: Find the modern award classification

  • Find the classification definitions in the modern award (located in a schedule towards the end of the award, commonly in Schedule B)
  • Read through the classifications and select the classification that best matches the work your employee is performing
  • Add the classification name in section F of your worksheet.

Step 6: Find the modern award wage rate

  • Select the July 2010 version of the modern award - click on versions on the right hand side. If there is not a July 2010 version, select the version closest in date after this time
  • In the wages section of the modern award, find the rate of pay that corresponds to the classification you have in section F of your worksheet
  • Add the pay rate to section F of your worksheet.

Note: If the award provides the pay rate as a weekly rate, convert it to an hourly rate by dividing by the ordinary hours in your award (e.g. Weekly rate ÷ 38 = hourly rate).

Step 7: Find the transitional pay rate for your NAPSA

  • Use PayCheck Plus  (or the relevant Pay and Conditions Guide) to find the transitional pay rate for your NAPSA as at 1 July 2010
  • In PayCheck Plus, select the check my payroll tab
  • Search for your modern award using the code in section E of your worksheet, and answer the remaining questions
  • For the ‘I want pay rates as at’ question, enter 1 July 2010
  • Select the pre-modern award that matches your NAPSA in section C of your worksheet, and proceed
  • Select your modern award classification using the classification name in section F of your worksheet
  • Select your pre-modern award classification using the classification name in section B of your worksheet.
  • Create the pair and proceed.
  • Add the pre-modern award classification and pay rate in section D of your worksheet.

Step 8: Find the rate you need to pay

  • Look at the three hourly rates in section B, D and F of your worksheet
  • In the Rank column, rank these rates of pay from 1-3 (1 for the highest rate of pay and 3 for the lowest rate of pay)
  • Refer to the Ranking results section of the worksheet and find the pattern that matches your ranking by reading down the columns. This will tell you which of the rates of pay applies. Where the transitional NAPSA rate and modern award rate are identical, the modern award rate applies.
  • In section G of your worksheet, add the rate of pay and whether this rate is from the NAPSA or modern award
  • Also add the rate of pay to section H of your worksheet. This rate of pay applied from 1 February 2011 until 30 June 2011.

Step 9: Check your rates of pay for future increases

  • You only need to complete the steps above the first time you find a pay rate. Once you have completed this process, checking for future increases is simple.
  • If you identified in section G of your worksheet that your rate of pay is the modern award rate, you can check your rate of pay by looking directly in the modern award and finding the wages section
  • If you identified in section G of your worksheet that your rate of pay is the transitional NAPSA rate, you can check your rate of pay by using PayCheck Plus and following the instructions in Step 7 above substituting 1 July 2010 with the new date (e.g. 1 July 2011).

Note: Each year add in the rates of pay in sections I, J and K of your worksheet.
