After 31 July 2009 Fair Work Australia replaced the following Australian Government agencies
- Australian Fair Pay Commission
- Australian Fair Pay Commission Secretariat.
From 1 January 2010, Fair Work Australia replaced the following Australian Government agencies:
- Australian Industrial Relations Commission
- Australian Industrial Registry.
After 31 January 2010 Fair Work Australia also replaced the Workplace Authority. The Workplace Authority ceased to have an advisory function from 1 July 2009. It continued with some agreement lodgement and processing functions until 31 January 2010.
From 1 July 2009 the Fair Work Ombudsman replaced the Workplace Ombudsman and took on the general advisory function of the Workplace Authority.
Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) & the Australian Industrial Registry
The AIRC and the Australian Industrial Registry ceased to exist after 31 December 2009.
This allowed the AIRC to complete matters and processes started under national workplace relations laws, including award modernisation.
