National Employer Program

The National Employer Program helps large employers achieve fair workplaces. It delivers tailored education to businesses to help them understand and apply Australia’s workplace laws.

Why participate in the program?

Some of the benefits of participating in the program are:

  • tailored advice about industrial instruments (eg coverage, application, interaction and interpretation of modern awards, agreements and the Fair Work Act)
  • advice about how the National Employment Standards operate and apply to your business
  • identification of any compliance risks and guidance in managing them
  • review of workplace policies and practices to make sure they meet the requirements of the Fair Work Act
  • personalised training to use our online pay tools
  • a single point of contact for workplace relations questions
  • the opportunity to work collaboratively with us.

How does the program work?

The program involves a range of services that can be tailored to a business’s individual needs. An employer can select the services that are most appropriate for their business and can discuss alternative services with their Advisor.

For example, the Advisor can:

  • review any workplace policies, procedures, contracts or agreements for consistency with the Fair Work Act and to identify areas where the business can improve or strengthen its workplace practices
  • advise on areas of workplace relations that an employer identifies of particular interest or concern to their business
  • provide guided access to our tools and resources
  • notify a nominated contact person of any workplace complaints received about the employer
  • assist the employer to implement appropriate measures to achieve a fairer workplace.

The National Employer Program is free. Employers must have time to meet with their Advisor and work to address any compliance issues that are identified.

Who can participate?

The program is designed for employers with more than 1000 employees, however some smaller employers may also be suitable.
