Campaign summary: In May 2011, Fair Work Inspectors (FWIs) visited the Avon Valley to educate employers on their obligations and assess compliance with record keeping, pay slip and hourly rate of pay obligations. The audits were conducted in the towns of Toodyay, Northam and York, with many of the employers audited operating hospitality and retail based businesses. Of the 51 employers audited 15 (29%) were found to be in contravention. The majority of the contraventions identified related to non compliance with record-keeping / pay slip obligations. To date the audit has recovered $368 for two employees. Two audits remain outstanding.

Peel Region Compliance Campaign 2010

Campaign summary: Fair Work Inspectors conducted record keeping and wage compliance audits in Western Australia’s Peel Region between November 2010 and April 2011. This was the first time the Fair Work Ombudsman conducted a compliance audit specifically in the Peel Region. Of the 47 audits completed 23 (49%) employers were found to be compliant whilst 24 (51%) were found to have contraventions. The audit recovered $13 585 for 42 underpaid workers.

Rottnest Island Compliance Campaign 2010

Campaign summary: In December 2010, Western Australian (WA) Fair Work Inspectors visited businesses operating on Rottnest Island. In addition to educating employers on the Fair Work Act 2009 and modern awards, they also assessed compliance with minimum rates of pay and payslip and record keeping obligations. Of the 23 employers visited, we found 14 to be compliant and 9 to be in contravention. The audit program recovered in excess of $24 000 for 87 employees.
