Vic- Hairdressing Apprenticeship Program 2011

Campaign summary: The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) and its predecessor have received numerous complaints from the hairdressing industry. Many of these complaints relate to apprentices and the non payment or underpayment of their monetary entitlements. Recognising the potential vulnerability of apprentices in the workplace, the Victorian office of the FWO will be conducting an audit program focussing on apprentices in the hairdressing industry. The program will commence in August 2011 and run through to July 2012. Fair Work Inspectors will be assessing compliance with hourly rates of pay, record keeping and examining off the job training arrangements.

Vic- Domestic Building Industry Apprenticeship Audit Program 2011

Campaign summary: In August 2011 the Victorian office of Fair Work Ombudsman will commence the Domestic Building Industry Apprenticeship Audit Program 2011. The program aims to ensure apprentices in the domestic building industry are receiving their correct entitlements and to educate employers on their obligations. A total of 250 employers will be requested to send in their records for assessment. A report of the program findings will be made available in July 2011.

Regional Transport Industry Campaign 2010-2011

Campaign summary: Regional Victorian Fair Work Inspectors will be conducting a transport industry targeted campaign commencing in September 2010.

The Fair Work Ombudsman receives a significant number of complaints about employment practices in the transport industry, and this campaign provides an opportunity for Fair Work Inspectors to work proactively with employers to ensure compliance with the Fair Work Act 2009 and Fair Work Regulations 2009

The campaign will aim to educate employers about recent changes to Commonwealth workplace legislation, including the introduction of Modern Awards, and provide direction for employers on how to achieve compliance with these new laws.
