National Structural Metal Product Manufacturing Campaign 2012

Campaign summary: The Fair Work Ombudsman, for the first time, is conducting a national education and compliance campaign within the structural metal product manufacturing industry. One of the roles of the Fair Work Ombudsman is to make compliance with Australian Workplace laws easier. Therefore we will be contacting industry employers and actively promoting and encouraging them to visit the dedicated web page www.fairwork.gov.au/structuralmetal where they can find information on their workplace obligations and check that their work practices are compliant.
In addition to the above, the Fair Work Ombudsman will be hosting a webinar on the campaign and obligations under the Manufacturing & Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2010. To attend the webinar on 2 May 2012 register here

Later in the year we will select a sample number of employers at random for a time record and wage assessment. Employers selected for an assessment will be notified by a Fair Work Inspector. During the campaign Fair Work Inspectors will work with employers, educating them on their obligations and assisting them achieve compliance.
National Vehicle Repair & Maintenance Campaign 2011-2012

Campaign summary: The Fair Work Ombudsman has commenced the information and awareness phase of the National Vehicle Repair and Maintenance Industry Campaign (the campaign). During the information and awareness phase the Fair Work Ombudsman will be actively promoting the campaign, making written contact with approximately 20,000 vehicle repair and service employers and hosting a webinar on the campaign and obligations under the Vehicle Manufacturing, Repair, Services and Retail Award 2010.
A central focus of the information and awareness phase is the vehicle industry page of Fair Work Online, which we will be encouraging industry employers to visit. This provides a suite of tools, templates, best practice examples and advice which aims to assist vehicle industry employers understand and comply with Australia’s workplace laws. As part of the compliance phase, which commences in January 2012, employers will be randomly selected for a time record and wage assessment. Employers selected for an assessment will be notified by a Fair Work Inspector.

National Clerical Workers Campaign 2011

Campaign summary: A review of FWO complaint data indicates that 4006 complaints were lodged by administration support officers between 2008 and 2010. Further, that administration support officers made 11 459 enquiries with the Fair Work Ombudsman between 1 January 2010 and 27 May 2011.
In light of the above as well as the fact that the FWO has not conducted a national audit specifically focussing on administration support employees, the FWO will commence the National Clerical Workers Campaign in August 2011.
The campaign will comprise of an education and compliance phase. The education phase of the campaign will commence in August with the compliance phase commencing in September.
Accounting and employment services employers will be asked to provide copies of their clerical and administration employees’ time and wage records for assessment against the Fair Work Act, Fair Work Regulations and applicable industrial instrument. Should an employer be found to be in contravention Fair Work Inspectors will encourage employers to voluntarily rectify the contraventions.
The Fair Work Ombudsman provided a free webinar about the Clerks - Private Sector Award 2010 on 17 August 2011. The webinar was intended for accountants and others in the accounting industry.

National Security Service Industry Follow Up Campaign 2011

Campaign summary: The Fair Work Ombudsman will be revisiting the security service industry to monitor and assess long term compliance with the Fair Work Act 2009 and the Fair Work Regulations 2009.
The Fair Work Ombudsman audited the security industry in 2009. As at 30 September 2010, 296 audits were completed as part of the 2009 campaign. Of the 296 audits finalised, 52% of employers were found to have a total of 277 contraventions. In excess of $1.1 million was recovered for 1124 employees.
Approximately 600 security employers will be asked to produce time and wage records for assessment in the Security Services Industry Follow Up Campaign 2011. Employers will also be asked to provide information regarding their contract for service arrangements.
