Fair Work Australia

Fair Work Australia is the national workplace relations tribunal. It is an independent body with the power to carry out a range of functions relating to:

  • the safety net of minimum wages and employment conditions
  • enterprise bargaining
  • industrial action
  • dispute resolution
  • termination of employment
  • other workplace matters.

 

The Fair Work Ombudsman

The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) works with employees, employers, contractors and the community to promote harmonious, productive and cooperative workplaces.

The FWO is a national organisation that provides advice about fair work practices, rights and obligations to employees, employers and outworkers.

The functions of the Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) include:

  • monitoring compliance with the Fair Work Act 2009, and investigating possible contraventions of workplace relations law
  • taking court action regarding contraventions of the Fair Work Act 2009

 

We publish information such as:

  • fact sheets on things such as the National Employment Standards (NES), modern awards, agreement making, freedom of association and termination of employment
  • best practice guides on national workplace relations or workplace practices.

Fair Work Divisions of the Court

Specialist Fair Work Divisions have been created in the Federal Court and Federal Magistrates Court to hear new workplace law matters.
