What is Award Finder?

From 1 January 2010, modern awards cover most workplaces.

You can use the Fair Work Ombudsman’s new Award Finder to search for your modern award.

You can also use Award Finder to search for the pre-modern award that covered you before 1 January 2010. If you know the pre-modern award you’re covered by but you’re not sure which modern award applies to you, Award Finder will help you locate the right information.

Important! You will need to know your modern award and pre-modern award to use other tools on this website (including PayCheck, Payroll Check and the Pay Rates Calculator).

Award Finder also provides information for state referral employers and employees covered by Division 2B Awards and Enterprise Awards.

Finding the right pay

Transitional arrangements in most modern awards allow new pay rates to be phased in over a period of four years until the full modern award rates apply on 1 July 2014.

Important! This means you should not rely solely on the pay rates (including loadings and penalty rates) set out in modern awards because they may not currently apply in full. Under the transitional arrangements, you need to refer to the pre-modern award that used to cover you before 1 January as well as the modern award to calculate minimum rates of pay

How do I search with Award Finder?

There are a number of ways you can search for your award using Award Finder. You can search:

By code

If you know the award code, you can enter it directly to Award Finder, eg. the award code for the Clerks - Private Sector Award 2010 is MA000002.

By title

You can enter the full title of the award or you can search for key words. You’ll also need to select the State or Territory where the work is ordinarily performed. If you know the type of award you’re looking for, you can narrow your search by selecting the award type.

By industry

If you’re not sure of the code or title you can search by the type of work or the industry of the award. You’ll need to select the State or Territory, and if you know the award type you can select that too.

Once Award Finder has found your award, you can select ‘view’ to access a copy of the award or the Pay and Conditions Guide.

Award Finder assists you to identify your awards based on the details you provide. If you have not provided the right information, or there are changes in your circumstances, it may affect your award coverage.
